Water Cooler Sanitation
Once in a while, a customer calls saying that the water coming out of her cooler doesn’t taste right.  Please note that Chilmark Spring Water contains absolutely nothing, except traces of natural salt and free sulphur, which is supposed to be good for your skin.  There is never any bacteria, or other contaminants in our water.  Every batch that we bottle is laboratory tested before we ship it.  So ---

CLEAN YOUR COOLER EVERY SIX MONTHS

A Dirty or contaminated cooler will taint your water.  Remember, it is a FOOD SERVICE APPLIANCE, and needs to be kept clean.  If you use and maintain it properly, it will remain sanitary, and your water will taste fine.  Here are some Do’s and Don’t’s, followed by cooler cleaning instructions:

1. DO store your water in a cool (not cold - water can freeze) place out of the sun.  Sun shining through plastic bottles is not good, even though the bottles are food approved polycarbonate.

2. DO keep your full and empty bottles in a clean, sanitary location.

3. DO wipe the neck and cap of each bottle with a paper towel or clean cloth before you put it on your  cooler.  Failure to do so will put dirt, germs, and Lord knows what into your cooler.  That is the  beginning of trouble.  You wouldn’t eat off dirty dishes, would you?

4. DO REMOVE THE SAFETY SEAL before you put on the bottle.  If you don’t, the glue and other  stuff that is on the safety seal goes right into the bottle.  This contaminates the water.

5. DO  CLEAN and sanitize the INSIDES of your cooler regularly, to remove bioslime.

6. DO  WASH YOUR HANDS before handling cooler bottles.  They are food service containers.

7. DO  KEEP  BOTTLES  AWAY from pets, children, garbage areas and “critters”.

8. DON’T allow insecticides, chemicals, paint, dirt, insects or other contaminants to get on, or in, your bottles.

9. DON’T  PUT  ANYTHING  INTO  THE  EMPTY  BOTTLES.  Keep them covered and sanitary.

10. DON’T  STORE  BOTTLES  OUTDOORS, or in dirty conditions.  “Things” get into open bottles.

11. DON’T STORE partly used bottles.  Once a bottle has been opened, it is no longer sterile.  Air in  the bottle can cause the water to spoil.  Don’t take the last bottle off when you run out of water.  Leave the bottle on the  cooler, to keep dirt and bacteria out.
