1. For regular maintenance, first wash your hands. Then unscrew the water guard ( no-spill) attachment on the top of your cooler a part of a turn counter clockwise, and lift it up. Be gentle, don’t use too much force, or you may break it. Set it aside in a clean place. Make up a cleaning solution of baking soda, using 1/3 cup in 1 ½ gallons of clean, warm (not hot) water. Wash the water guard unit in this solution, then rinse it thoroughly in warm water. Pour the cleaning solution into the cooler’s water reservoir, and draw it out of all of the water valves, in turn, beginning with the cold valve. Repeat this procedure two or three times. You may also let the solution sit in the cooler for fifteen or twenty minutes. Drain the cooler through all of the valves, then flush it with three or four gallons of fresh water, draining it through all of the valves. Re - install the water guard unit by pushing it downward, then twist it slightly clockwise, to lock it in place. Your cooler will now be clean and sanitary, and your water should taste sweet.

2. If your cooler is dirty - follow the instructions above, except wash the water guard unit and cooler insides with a solution of 1 tablespoon of dishwashing soap in 1 ½ gallons of warm water. Then use the soda solution, followed by thorough rinsing, as detailed above. You will need a lot more rinse water, though.

3. If your cooler has become unsanitary -add two tablespoons of laundry bleach to the dish washing solution, followed by the baking soda solution, followed by thorough rinsing. Additional rinsing will be needed to completely remove all traces of the bleach solution. In this case, use warm water for rinsing.

Please Clean Your Cooler Twice A Year

If you keep your cooler clean, and follow the DO’s and DON’T’s listed on the attached information sheet, you may only need to use the soda solution twice a year. Some situations may require that you clean your cooler more often. Your cooler will remain clean and sanitary, and you will taste the true quality of Chilmark Springwater.
